Shoro.aiNevada requires supervised driving practice for permit holders under 18. The rules differ by age and location.
Nevada requires 50 total supervised driving hours before a teen can take the road test, including at least 10 hours driven after sunset. All hours must be logged on the official DLD-130 form, signed by the supervising driver.
Total practice hours needed depend on your age and access to driver education.
| Driver Category | Total Practice Hours | Night Driving (Darkness) |
|---|---|---|
| Teens Under 18 (Standard) | 50 hours | 10 hours (Required) |
| Teens Under 18 (Rural Exemption) | 100 hours | 10 hours (Required) |
| Adults 18 and Older | 0 hours (State Minimum) | None Required |
The rural exemption applies if a classroom driver education course is not offered within 30 miles of your residence and you do not complete an online course.
Yes, if you are under 18 you must log driving hours. You submit a verified log when you apply for your license.
Two official logging options exist:
Use standard AM/PM time format on all logs. Never use military time.
Additional log sheets are available at the Nevada DMV website (DLD-130A).
Hours completed with a certified driving instructor count toward your total required practice time.
The DMV checks and audits logs. The signature is a legal affidavit.
Your parent or guardian must sign the DLD-130 form in front of a DMV representative at your test appointment. This applies even if using the RoadReady app - you still need the parent signature on page one of DLD-130.
If they cannot attend, the form must be signed in front of a Notary Public beforehand.
Falsifying a log is a felony in Nevada, punishable by 1-4 years in prison, fines up to $5,000, and suspension of driving privileges.
You cannot create or estimate hours after the fact. The log must be completed contemporaneously. Backdating entries is considered falsification.
For comprehensive experience, spread your 50 hours across these environments:
You must hold your instruction permit for at least six months with a clean driving record.
Failing by 2 points on road sign questions is more common than you'd think. At the Sparks office, one applicant guessed on four sign questions, got three wrong, failed by 2 points, mandatory 7-day hold. Nevada includes 5 state-specific road sign questions; never guess on signs, and log practice time that includes sign recognition on real roads.
Complete information about teen driving rules is available on the Nevada DMV teen drivers page. Additional logging guidance can be found in our Nevada DMV log rules guide.
"The AI mock tests were surprisingly realistic. The explanations for road signs helped me understand the logic, not just memorize. Passed my permit test on the first try!"
